PtP and Global Citizen launch private sector anti-SLAPP pledge

On Saturday, September 23, 2023, at the Global Citizen Festival, an “an annual music festival where fans take actions toward ending extreme poverty in order to earn free tickets,” Global Citizen and the Protect the Protest coalition announced the launch of their private sector anti-SLAPP pledge. Corporations are encouraged to sign the pledge as a way to participate in helping end Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation (SLAPPs). In taking the pledge, signers agree never to bring a SLAPP suit, and by doing so demonstrate that they engage in socially responsible and ethical business practices, help protect civic spaces and set a new standard for corporate accountability, and stand with people and frontline communities against harmful corporate practices. At the festival, it was announced that Ben & Jerry’s, the Body Shop, Lush, Patagonia, and Seventh Generation had all taken the pledge.

If you represent a corporation and are interest in taking the anti-SLAPP pledge, contact info@protecttheprotest.org.
